An Effective Career Search

Following are four distinctive steps you must take to implement the most effective career search possible:
  • Self-evaluation and research
  • Resume composition
  • Creating an unforgettable Cover Letter
  • Resume preparation/distribution/coordination

Your resume and cover letter could be competing with hundreds of other presentations. Therefore, you must pay special attention to the creation of your resume so that - from the start - your resume/cover letter piques the interest of the reader and APPEARS to be like no other resume they have received.

Focus first on the quality of your resume(s) and cover letter(s). Your written communication must do your talking for you and create a 'positive image' for you until you get the chance to speak on your own behalf. In fact, your resume and cover letter will determine whether or not you even get the opportunity to speak on your own behalf - in other words, whether or not you get an interview or a telephone call arranging an interview.

Your cover letter and resume are the backbone of your career search, but there are equally important steps to take before and after their preparation, such as steps 1 and 4.

Step 1 has already been covered here - see self-assessment skills post. Step 4 has also been covered here - see resume categories and resume preparation posts.

In order to obtain a satisfying career position in today's competitive job market you must be prepared to work at job-finding - TREAT IT AS A JOB IN ITSELF!
