Resume

We've discussed self-assessment and the last post showed examples of how to use those assessments in your resume's first category: QUALIFICATIONS or EXPERTISE, etc. Following is a list of 'HOT TRANSFERABLE SKILLS which you might want to work into your resume's first category and / or your cover letter.
  • Budget Management - managing how funds are dispensed, controlling a budget, knowing what fiscal control is all about.
  • Supervision - taking responsibility for the work of others, accountability. Having direct contact with the work of others. Giving orders, delegating tasks, establishing rapport and productive working relationships.
  • Public Relations - greeting visitors, customers; answering phone inquiries, speaking to community groups, explaining programs to prospective clients.
  • Deadline Pressure - demonstrate that you can produce excellent work when governed by external deadlines. Show you can function effectively on someone else's schedule.
  • Negotiation / Arbitration - knowing how to bring warring factions together; resolving differences between groups or individuals; knowing how to deal openly and effectively with people in ambiguous situations.
  • Speaking - having taken a leadership role in any organization, public speaking, preparing remarks, getting across ideas, motivating people.
  • Writing - show examples of newsletters, letters to the editor, articles you have written for organizations, club, and events.
  • Organization and Coordination - taking charge of events. Taking responsibility for bringing people together, resources, and event planning, project management.
  • Interviewing - explain how you acquired information from others by questioning them directly, making them feel comfortable in your presence.
  • Teaching /Instructing - your ability to explain things to others. Any position of leadership or responsibility where you had the chance to teach ideas and methods.

Describe your skills in concise terms; back up your claims by referring to actual experiences in your life (show proof them in your professional experience category), make a clear connection between your skills and the needs of the employer.
